Here is your guide to exceptional events.

Welcome to Procédeuil, an app designed to guide you and your school through the steps that should be taken when a student or staff member dies.

Procédeuil is based on the realities generally experienced by primary and secondary schools in such situations. Obviously, every environment presents its own particularities that should be considered when using the app. However, with proper critical analysis and adapted training, Procédeuil can be used in environments that cater to toddlers (CPEs, childcare settings, etc.) and older children (adult education centres, CEGEPs, universities, etc.). Companies can also draw inspiration from it in designing their protocols.

This app cannot replace the expertise of a specialist. In case of doubt, it is everyone’s responsibility to validate the actions taken. Procédeuil is a professional tool that takes into account the needs of youth, adults, and management, as well as the fears of contagion and contamination. Each case being unique, it is important to take the time to do a proper analysis before acting. The needs of those who are suffering should always be taken care of appropriately. This app takes into account the presence of social networks that disseminate information, but also the experiences of hundreds of young people and adults who have gone through such events. These people’s lived experience can guide you in making the right choices during exceptional events. So, while we invite you to be mindful of the limitations of any app, we hope the tool will help you better understand what practices reduce risks. May you enjoy the journey!

The content creator of this guide, Josée Masson, has been a social worker since 1996. She has dedicated her career to the grief experienced by young people and has created the organization Deuil-Jeunesse. Since 1998, she has offered support in countless exceptional events, mainly involving the death of young students. Through her years of work and travel, she has come to understand the challenges faced by crisis management boards and committees when a young person dies.

Since 2008, Josée Masson and her team have helped numerous schools develop best practices for exceptional events. The primary concern is to standardize and harmonize practices between schools. This app is the result of several years of reflection, reading and interventions. It was produced by Agence Stereo and was analyzed and tested by 11 schools in the Capitale-Nationale region. The intellectual property belongs entirely to Deuil-Jeunesse.
The app is available for free, but training is strongly recommended in order to understand its nuances, especially the concepts that underlie the recommended choices and actions. It is important to test it with different scenarios before using it in a real situation in order to avoid mistakes.

For more information or to receive training on how to use the app, contact Deuil-Jeunesse at 1-855-889-3666 or info@deuil-jeunesse.com.
